Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students from various communities and socioeconomic backgrounds gathering in one place they call home: our classroom. This is the feedback I have received from former students and feedback that my current students present.
Technology as a means to cultivate a passion for STEM lessons.
They call my class home because I strive to take a common interest in students, technology, and use it to create a passion for learning. Students use the Chromebooks to document their STEM lab activities. Students use their Chromebooks to take their Science notes. Students use the Google suite, such as Google Docs and Google Slides, to utilize as a tool to express their knowledge of Science.
NGSS embeds communication as a component to the learning process in 7th grade. As such, my students enjoy showing their work on our current television for presentations. But the remaining students must use their small Chromebooks to present. Listening to feedback of the students, they have suggested that by having an additional television to display to their presentations, both presenter and audience will benefit.
My Project
Fueling the 175 student's interest in Science will now be magnified to a 55-inch television!
The vision is to give students the ability to sit anywhere in the classroom so as to have the flexibility to learn from the presentations of a student and teacher via different screens in different locations of the classroom.
Students practice presenting in front of groups in Science class. The students will connect a Chromebook to the television via the Chromecast. By having two televisions on opposite sides of the room, students will now be able to present to smaller groups. This helps in having a more intimate presentation of knowledge between presenter and audience. Plus, presenters and audience will now have an enhanced image of the information at hand, as opposed to looking at a small Chromebook screen.
Lastly, I will use the splitter to connect my computer to the two televisions. The splitter will allow my computer to mirror my screen to the front television, as well as the anticipated television that would be installed in the back of the classroom. This will allow the students to have the choice to look at the screen in front or the screen in the back and be able to see the same information I have on my computer screen. This is my vision of fueling technology in the classroom to enhance my students experience in the classroom.
