Cheviot 5th/6th Science: Lab and Station Materials
Help me give my students lab materials to understand our major units this school year! Students will be focusing on sound, light, cells, rocks/minerals, and the solar system! These items will be used in demonstrations, labs, and stations!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have worked in CPS (Cincinnati Public School District) for three years now. It has been a a very humbling and eye opening experience. All of my students receive free lunch. Most live at or below the poverty line. Many of my students do not the means to get their own basic supplies such as pencils, notebooks, or folders. I typically have to buy supplies for 90% of my students. My students have become my "kids." I care about their success in the classroom as well as their safety and well being outside the classroom.
This upcoming school year I will be teaching 5th and 6th grade science at our Elementary.
5th graders are required to take the AIR test for science. Any help with basic school supplies or materials I can use to help my students understand the content would be greatly appreciated!! I have noticed my students love to work with manipulatives. They learn best from hands on activities. Thank you for your support!
My Project
In 5th and 6th grade students begin to have Science as a core subject on a daily basis. Prior to grade 5 students only have science for a limited amount of time a week. My class will be my students' first impression of what exactly science entails. My goal is for my students to be excited to come to class and take a real interest in the material.
Students learn science best from hands on activities, models, and what we call "manipulatives" in the education world.
The materials for the project will be used for labs, demonstrations, and stations. Help me to create the ultimate science experience for my students!
