Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from a very diverse, low income area. 70% of our students receive a free or reduced price lunch in school. They come to our school for a safe learning environment where they can learn, grow, and work together to find ways to better their community.
My students are inquisitive, hardworking, and striving to better themselves.
Their ability to persevere despite obstacles and to overcome in the face of adversity is what prompted me to seek out resources for them via this site.
My Project
My students need ribbons, a trophy, and a grand prize of a tablet to promote our first annual chess tournament and give our winners some memorable prizes.
Chess is an amazing game that promotes critical thinking skills.
My goal is to get as many students interested in chess as I possibly can. Chess is a game that can improve memory, concentration, and even teaches resiliency and patience as students work towards getting their peers into check-mate. Our students can benefit from these skills both in school and in their daily lives. Having prizes to promote our tournament will get more kids interested and involved.
