My students are hardworking, imaginative, and motivated to learn and excel. They love getting the chance to work together collaboratively with their friends.
We take brain breaks throughout the school day because the breaks help my students stay focused on their rigorous, demanding curriculum.
They especially love to play cognitively challenging board games that help develop planning, strategy, persistence, and critical thinking skills.
My students take school very seriously and love to impress adults with how smart and talented they are!
My Project
Classic board games like Go and Chess (along with newer games like Machi Koro) can teach important social skills, such as communicating verbally, sharing, waiting, taking turns, and collaborating with others.
These games foster the ability to focus, and lengthen a student's attention span by encouraging the completion of an challenging, enjoyable game.
Students will be able to play these games during regular brain breaks as well as during indoor recess. All of the games in this project are cognitively challenging, and help develop planning, strategy, persistence, and critical thinking skills. They include both classic games that are no longer commonly played in schools (but will certainly be exciting for my 4th graders), as well as games specifically requested by my students!
