My Students

I have classroom full of young students who are like sponges and are eager to learn.

The students' backgrounds are rich representing many different cultures and languages with the common purpose, to learn! My school is 87% free and reduced lunch. Our families are counting on us to educate their children and provide an education that will allow their students to be competitive in a world that is ever changing.

My Project

I am asking for 14 chessboards so that I can teach my students the game. Countless researchers and studies have shown over the years that chess does indeed strengthen a child's mental clarity, stability and overall health. It is a relatively inexpensive but essential way of helping kids call upon higher-order thinking skills, analyze actions and consequences, and visualize future possibilities.

Education is one of the only things in life that can not be taken away.

I would like to arm my students will this tool of critical thinking. These chess boards will remain with my class so that I can use them yearly with incoming students.
