My Students

Diverse is a word I would use to describe my students. Not only do my students come from various ethnic backgrounds, they are different in that they have entered my class with a wide range of ability levels and they also bring their own special gifts and talents! We are in a Title I district that brings a special set of hurdles for many of the students. Our school offers opportunities from personal needs (counseling to medical services) as well as academic needs (vocational and technical classes). However, even with that support, the students need access to quality classroom settings to address STEM and 21st-century science skills.

The most important factor is to have my students build on science skills they already possess and develop new science proficiencies in my chemistry class.

The critical thinking skills I want to teach them are key to their future academic success and future success in life.

My Project

One of the major projects my students will work on this year includes the interconnection between bonding, chemical solutions, and acid/base base chemistry. The goal of this project has many facets and objectives. The obvious purpose is to learn chemistry, but other intentions are equally as important.

Many students don't think about how chemistry influences everyday life, and sometimes miss the real-world connections.

I want my students to see the practical uses of what they are learning. Making Tie-Dyed shirts will be a fun and engaging way to learn the chemistry content while bridging the idea that chemistry is all around and vital to everything we do!
