"Be the change" is a quote I have displayed in the front of my classroom all formed from element abbreviations and scientific symbols. My students are invested each day to study the subject of science and to recognize its importance to positively affect their lives and change the lives of others.
My students are an enthusiastic and curious bunch of girls who are eager to learn and understand science.
Going to an all-girls school has given them the chance to indulge in scientific inquiry without the fear of gender stereotypes and they never hesitate to ask questions. They do best with any hands-on learning experiences and always want to know why a specific phenomenon exists or how scientists made a certain discovery.
My students are from low income neighborhoods in inner city New York. They are independent thinkers and work very hard to master the material because they are invested in succeeding for their future. They often ask questions about college and I want to ensure that they are prepared for future science coursework at a rigorous level.
My Project
My students love to see what they are learning and that means they deserve as many opportunities to participate in lab work as possible. The glassware will help us to move away from plastic cup chemistry and towards using the materials that actual scientists use. My students deserve to use instruments that accurately measure mass for their lab experiences and the triple beam balance will allow them to conduct labs dealing with mass. In addition, without a previous stock of chemical supplies, these new materials will allow students to explore specific concepts that are hard to visualize with just simple instruction such as neutralizing acids and bases. My students are a wonderful group of young ladies who want to learn and I'm excited that these materials will help make that happen in the most engaging way.
My students are hopeful.
They believe that the hard work they are putting in now will lead them on a life they will be proud of. I want them to be prepared to successfully complete any science coursework in their future and use those studies to change the world.
