My children are energetic, hard-working students who have a real drive to learn. They are kind and love to share information that has been learned. Their love for each other resembles a family atmosphere where we can all feel safe and take risks.
These same children are plagued with deficits in academic and social development.
The neighborhood they live in is often unsafe. Within the walls of our classroom, they find a safety that may not be found in their everyday lives. That feeling of belonging and security enables them to feel more relaxed in the classroom which in turn allows for learning to be in the forefront.
Most children love to cook, bake and create. However, many of my children lack those experiences in their homes. This project will enable PreK children to explore these possibilities in an encouraging, safe, hands-on learning environment.
Your donations will provide experiential learning to my PreK children and given them the opportunity for academic and social-emotional growth in an interactive setting.
My children will not only learn about counting and following directions, but they will learn how sharing and teamwork can create a final product.
We will begin the year using our measuring cups and spoons as well as mixing bowls and spoons to make homemade play dough. The children will use the rolling pins to help them form letters, shapes and numbers. They will practice fine motor skills by cutting bananas with butter knives on cutting boards. Further, we will smash those bananas to bake bread in our loaf pans. We will celebrate fall by making homemade soup and applesauce in our crockpot. We will use our cookie sheets during the holiday season. In the spring, we will learn how to whisk together ingredients to make pudding.
With each project, we hope to stir up a conversation at home that will make meal preparation and dinner time a family experience making home and school connections the Chef's Special!
