This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a mixture of 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade students at a rural school in a complete Title I district. The school recently merged with another school because the district struggles financially and was unable to keep both schools opened.
My class is an access class that uses computers for various high school level science classes.
These type lessons keep the students engaged, however, the supplies that are required are costly. Students are motivated by technology, extracurricular activities, and unique learning opportunities.
My Project
The district I work in is complete title I. The teachers have paired with the cheerleading sponsor and are writing projects to help alleviate some of the expenses for cheerleaders' families.
The cost, if paid fully by families, would put an extreme hardship on them.
The cheer packages include game uniforms, camp wear (that will also be worn when a uniform is not appropriate), support shoes, black and gold pom-poms, socks, a bow, and rain jackets. These items will be used to practice, during summer camp, and during school events. The girls also need a backpack to carry their items to and from the field and court.
