This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My athletes come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 85% of our students receiving free or discounted lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in Oakland and so is our cheer squad. The cheerleaders keep the crowd spirits high with a variety of cheers, dances, stunts, and halftime performances. All of the athletes are very committed to cheering. They attend practice through the summer and all school year while maintaining over a 3.0 team grade point average.
My Project
Our Highschool Cheerleaders would like to attend cheer camp this year. Cheer camp is where they will learn new team bonding strategies, cheers, dances, and learn how to safely stunt. This will improve halftime routines and boost confidence for future competitions. Cheer camp is $190 per person for 3 days and most athletes simply can't afford to attend even though we have at least 5 fundraisers per year. Along with the price of cheer camp we also have to generate funds for transportation. Cheer has not received any financial support and this will help bring down the cost for each athlete.
