This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I began teaching English at this high school a little over a year ago, and I care a lot about my students and their success. I want my students to have the best classroom environment that I can provide. I have recently asked for class decor that is new and inviting. However, I was told that there are not enough funds and that I need to make my own posters. I've tried to do this, but what I've produced is not up to my standards for my students. It looks cheap and unprofessional.

My students deserve a wonderful classroom environment that encourages positivity and resourcefulness.

These posters will cover our walls with the intention that students will be able to reference the information and become more self-sufficient and confident in their ability to guide their own learning.

I also would say that this project falls under the subject of Racial Justice & Representation because, too often, my students - 90% of whom are of African American heritage - have had classroom environments that are filled with worn out, dingy, outdated, or hand-made classroom decor that is deemed "acceptable" by those who do not have to be in these classrooms all day. This is unfair, and it will not happen in my classroom. They deserve more.
