Our school is located in a low-income area. Most of our students are not able to afford to participate in cheerleading outside of school. In our district, middle school cheerleaders are encouraged to cheer at football/basketball games, and pep assemblies. They are not given resources to help them train to be better athletes. In fact, they aren’t even recognized by the athletic department. The cheerleaders are considered a club and left on their own to fundraise or pay out of pocket what they need each year.
This doesn’t stop our young women though.
Each year, they learn two routines and compete locally and nationally as a competitive cheer team. They work with choreographers, tumbling, and stunt coaches. They practice every day never giving up to compete at a level most of them would never get the opportunity. They are three-time National Champions despite all of the challenges they face.
My Project
Our cheerleaders are fantastic young women who work incredibly hard not only on the mat but at their academics and leadership skills. Currently, our cheerleaders are paying out of pocket for their uniforms and this is extremely difficult for many families.
We would love to have a school set that could be used to alleviate this cost for future families.
This uniform is a necessity for the cheerleaders when cheering at games, competing in competitions, or even just when attending parades! It allows the girls to present themselves as a team and to look like the unit they strive so hard to become.
