Hooray! This project is fully funded

I teach chess at a high poverty college-prep high school, where most of my students do not believe that they are meant to go to college. Though the school I teach at does an effective job of preparing students for the rigors of college, most of my students still see the divide between high school and college as too wide a gap to cross. As a teacher, it is difficult to see qualified students opt out of the opportunity to attend a university because of preconceived notions. I have never let my students use poverty or what they do not have as an excuse for what they can not accomplish. So, I do not want their lack of money or knowledge to stop them from becoming great chess players or from moving along the road onto college. If a collection of chess books by chess master Susan Polgar are purchased for my students, I believe this will translate into success in and out of the classroom. And, with this momentum, I plan to use these successes to demonstrate to them that they can successfully transition from high school into college. Thus, when my students arrive at college, they will know that with hard work and determination and with chess acting as their vehicle, they can succeed. Everyday, with the state of the current economy, I witness more and more educational cutbacks. But, these chess books by chess master Susan Polgar can change my students’ futures in chess and college. With your help, it can be possible for my students to hold their heads up as they face the future challenges and obstacles that begin with chess and culminate in a college education.
