Help me give my students the opportunity to practice chess skills at school and at home while preparing for competitions using the chess clocks and take home chess sets.
My elementary chess club students are hard-working, loving, curious, creative, and full of possibilities! They come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. We are a Title I school so my students all come in with different experiences and strengths that they can share with each other. Many students entered school this year missing the social and academic experiences needed to build self-esteem, gain self-confidence, and make human connections. They missed out on the social experiences that will help them not only be successful in elementary school but in life. They are working on building relationships and connecting with peers while learning how to think instead of being told what to think. They are learning game theory, good sportsmanship, and analytical thinking. Their goal is to build relationships, gain a sense of belonging, learn through play, and compete with other chess clubs.
My Project
My students have been practicing, bonding, and building their skills. They are excited to move to the next level by using chess clocks to prepare for competitions. Many of my students do not have a chess set at home so the take-home sets would allow them to practice at home and share their knowledge with their families while bonding and building self-confidence.
