My Students

My class is made up of an extraordinary group of students, a group of students that are the hardest subgroup to show academic growth.

Academic and Intellectually Gifted students deserve to have meaningful educational opportunities and grow in their learning.

As an Academic and Intellectually Gifted specialist, I help facilitate the learning of 35 gifted students in 4th and 5th grades, as well as 45 more 1st-3rd grade nurturing groups. We focus on the areas of reading, math, and nonverbal skills. These students love learning and need the tools necessary to enrich their studies.

My Project

Chess is a game of strategy, skill, and decisive thinking! For many it takes years to learn and master the game and for some, they never fully understand how to play.

Chess is a game that actually makes your brain bigger!

It's true. Each time you play you are growing dendrites. Learning to play chess can help students analyze information and engage in higher order thinking. Playing chess also helps students visualize, synthesize, and develop decision making skills, all "real world" essential skills! Research also suggests that students who learn to play chess increase their IQ, score higher on creative assignments, and have higher rates of concentration.
