"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go."
-Dr. Seuss, "I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!"
My students are fun, happy, witty, courageous, and spunky!
They stand out compare to their typical developing peers because they are students with special needs. My students are in 3rd-5th grade. They have autism, language impairments, intellectual disabilities, and/or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. They are below grade level in all areas of the curriculum. However, they ALL love books!
My Project
My students struggle to read and struggle to read independently. Silent reading is nearly nonexistent in my classroom. They are afraid to take chances and give up quickly when adversity strikes. With the Speakaboo program, my students can browse digital books and read or listen to them on our netbooks or iPads at the comfort of their desk, floor, or where ever they feel best. There will be no need to give up. There are 100s of books to choose from that will help spark a love for reading. The best part about this project is that it will also support our primary grade students (K-3rd grade) in the school.
Reading takes us to new worlds and allows our imagination to soar.
There is no limit when it comes to reading. Please help me instill a love of reading for my students so they too can enter into different worlds and imagine new things!
