My students need electronic spell checkers so they can correctly spell words with various sound options. Is the word spelled "frozin" or "frozen"? "Wise" or wize"? The spell checker corrects the phonetic spelling of words.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school has 85.3 % of students coming from low-income households. The mobility rate is high at 16.1%...much higher than the state average of 6.9. African Americans make up 42% of the 407 students. Hispanics make up another 41%. Mixed race students 13.5%. some of the parents never even meet the classroom teacher. These students need a few extra tools for learning.
Our elementary school has great students who are excited to learn but many of them hear different dialects at home and in the classroom which can make learning difficult.
English was created from many different languages and is full of contradictions adding to student confusion.
I work with students that struggle more than most. My students are in the 45th percentile or below for learning to read. As a reading intervention teacher, it's my job to help them achieve their potential.
My Project
I am requesting the Franklin Collins Pocket Spellers so that students can quickly verify the correct spelling of a word. After students phonetically sound out a word, students can type into the spell checker to see if it is correct. If an error was made, the spell checker will show the correct spelling of a word. Students can self-correct words and produce better writing pieces utilizing this tool.
The Franklin Collins Pocket Speller will boost the confidence of my reading intervention students and increase their word knowledge!
It will also provide experience with technology in the classroom.
I can't wait to start incorporating the pocket spellers into my classroom!
