Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In the middle of Nebraska, you will find a school that serves 350 second and third graders. The school is 75% Hispanic with 50% English Language Learners. This school also has 88% of its students who qualify for free and reduced-price lunch.
Our school library is a unique and essential part of our learning community.
The students that use this area are engaged with learning resources that help encourage them to become lifelong learners and readers.
Our students face many challenges daily both in and out of the classroom. I know I cannot change what happens outside the door of my classroom, but I want to inspire my students as much as I can while they are inside my four walls. I want to prepare capable and lifelong learners for challenges and opportunities for the future.
My Project
A smaller book cart would be essential in our school library because of its size in our small library. Students will be able to utilize it by being able to find books that they want and take them into their classrooms.
Book check out is so important in our library!
Students are using the online catalog and finding books of their choice. This cart can help them take the books into their classrooms so they are available when needed.
This book cart will also be useful for displaying books that could be used for projects that are being taught in the classrooms. Being mobile, it would keep the books in their own area so students know what materials are available to them.
