My Students
I work at a Title I school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Being in a small, rural town home to a prison, our students all have difficult obstacles to overcome in order to be successful academically and personally.
My 4th graders - despite difficult circumstances in their lives - are vibrant, curious, creative, and bring such a joy to all around them.
They come to school so full of life. We work hard together as our classroom family unit in order to ask deep questions, answer difficult inquiries, and to be good leaders in our school and community.
My Project
My students have a deep love of our Read Aloud time - something I feel is incredibly important since many do not have adults who read with them at home. We are fortunate to have time set aside each day to read aloud and it's my students' favorite time of day. It also helps them wind down and relax after eventful recesses. I am requesting a class set of Chasing Vermeer for Read Aloud.
As Stephen King wrote, "Books are a uniquely portable magic." My students love being immersed in new stories, meet new characters, and go to new places (some they may never get the opportunity to go to in their lifetimes).
They love to talk about the books we've already read and to "fight" over what book will lead us on our next great adventure!
