My sixth graders come from diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. They are fun-loving, kind-hearted, energetic students who desire to be successful. I am thrilled to work with them!
This year, my students are completing their final year of elementary school...and as such...their final preparations for a transition to middle school.
Reading is a content area that needs to be emphasized. There are a variety of skills that need to be addressed within this content area. This novel will go along way in their overall preparation.
One of the most difficult challenges when working with middle school-aged students is finding reading material that they will enjoy. If they don't enjoy the reading material, they won't fully invest in the thinking that's necessary to grow. This is why I chose the novel, "Ghost," by Jason Reynolds.
My students will engage in whole-class discussions/debates, cooperative small-group activities, problem-solving tasks, as well as a culminating project.
This novel, along with carefully designed activities, will strengthen their critical thinking skills.
Through this novel study, my reading class will sharpen their analytical skills, challenge their thinking about the real-world, and learn more about themselves...while enjoying an engaging story!
