My students need markers, magnets (to hang), post its (to add their thinking) and easel paper to make informative and interactive posters to hang on our classroom walls.
Do you remember being in the classroom and seeing all the posters that covered your classroom walls that your teacher never bothered to go over? Help my students be able to make their own meaningful posters!
The students in my class are in a Title I school that houses many disadvantaged children.
As an educator, it is very difficult to have my students take ownership of their learning. This can be helped by the students having input in the items that cover their classroom walls.
My Project
The materials being requested are simply materials to make and display learning posters. The sticky pads and magnets are used for displaying the posters. The markers are used to make these posters colorful and interesting, and the post its are used to add notes as we discover material that needs to be added to our posters.
The post its allow students to add their thinking, so the posters become interactive. For example, when discussing predictions, the original poster will include the definition and a few examples. Students will then have an opportunity to write their predictions on a post it, which will then be attached to the poster. There is a specific spot within the classroom where posters are hung by subject where students can then refer to as needed.
When students are studying for their tests, and taking their tests, they will remember the class discussions held while making these posters; this will help them to do better on their tests.
When they look around the classroom they will truly believe that it is THEIR classroom!
