This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember being in school and trying to remember every single vocabulary word and process for problem solving? Things haven't changed! There's still a lot to remember!
My students are hard-working, talented children who live in an urban environment.
Most have free or reduced lunch. They walk to their neighborhood school in Maryland. When they get to school, they eat their breakfast and get right to work. Their school has been in a turnaround program for the past 3 years. They have made tremendous progress in reading.
My Project
It's time for my students to excel in math as well. The resources will change our classroom environment by giving both myself and the students the tools we need to chart all of our learning. I have selected a variety of markers to go with chart paper. I will be able to showcase vocabulary and process charts for my students to refer back to, and the students will be able to give tips to their classmates by making their own charts as well.
As the students and I chart information together, they will be able to own the material and access it as it is displayed in the classroom.
As the students use the vocabulary, process charts, and tips for skill mastery, they will increase their success in math.
