This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My first graders are AWESOME! They are explorers and they are constantly on the move. My school is a place where teachers work hard to educate children from the inside out, emphasizing holistic learning to enhance student growth. We emphasize being safe, being kind, being respectful and being responsible each day in our little classroom. I work with 20 amazing and hardworking students who are extremely eager to learn, participate, and support each other's learning throughout the day.
Our school is a Title I school that serves many military families that are connected to Fort Bragg and 100% of our students receive free/reduced-price lunch.
We are a low wealth district in Cumberland county.
My class is full of students with a variety of interests, experiences, needs, and strengths. With the resources and structure they need to apply their curiosity, they will continue to develop into strong learners and balanced individuals. I may not be able to control their home lives, but I really try to provide meaningful and memorable experiences for them every day.
My Project
I am seeking funding to provide coding materials that my students will use to practice coding without a tablet or a computer.
My goal is for the Champs to be actively engaged and excited to learn by coding and to develop a growth mindset as they realize the possibilities of real-world problem-solving.
The Ozobot, Sphero and Botley robots are all geared towards teaching younger students computer science concepts while engaging them with tactile learning. Sometimes WiFi and computer issues often hinder us from learning basic programming in the classroom. Since these coding robots are programmed directly from a remote control, they can get to programming right away without worrying about computers. My students will be able to be engaged in science and ISTE standards as they build puzzles, navigate mazes, follow lines, and detect obstacles.
By funding this project you will help the Champs to make connections between our school, their community, and the world as they collaborate as a team.
