My students need extra charging cords and a power strip, in the event they forget their cords and their Chromebooks need to be charged during the school day.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The upcoming school year will be my 17th year of teaching 9th graders, ranging in age from 14-16, at a 7th through 9th grade junior high school. My students come from very diverse backgrounds. Over 90% of my students receive free/reduced lunch, and many are also from homes where English is not the primary language spoken.
Our school is transitioning to a 1-to-1 Chromebook learning environment in the 2018-2019 school year.
My students will be required to use new forms of technology to enhance their learning and classwork.
Regardless of their challenges, the majority of my students are motivated to learn and make the most of their high school experience, so that they can succeed in college and/or careers.
My Project
My students will be transitioning to 1-to-1 personal Chromebooks this year. This means that each of them (over 800 in my school) will be issued their own Dell Chromebook for classroom and home use. I anticipate a steep learning curve in remembering to charge their devices at home nightly, and remembering to carry their charging cords back and forth to home each day. While my ultimate goal is that students will become responsible technology users, in the beginning of this process, I am hoping to minimize learning disruptions by having backup charging cords for checkout within my classroom, as well as a multi-plug power strip to be used in my room.
