Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from high poverty/ low-income families who have not been exposed to many of the cool, amazing things the world has to offer. All of them are filled with curiosity and the eagerness to learn as much as their little minds will allow them to. Hands-on experiences are the best ways to keep these students engaged. Just because these students aren't in the best of neighborhoods doesn't mean that they should be deprived of the many materials offered elsewhere.
My Project
My students utilize technology a lot within the classroom. They use robots (Spheros) and iPads where they learn coding and use different types of apps for learning such as Nearpod, Classcraft, and Scratch Jr. They also take a lot of photos of their work and create Stop-Motion videos on the iPads. My class is using the iPads consistently throughout the day, and unfortunately there is currently no way that all of the iPads are able to get charged at the same time. It is very inconvenient to be constantly switching out charged iPads with low batteries. Sometimes because of the transitions of charging the iPads, some students are left without iPads. By having a few more plugs and outlets to plug in cords, it would make my classroom run a lot smoother and ensure everybody has a fully charged iPad throughout the day to stay engaged throughout their class.
