Mrs. Chavez from Columbus GA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a Google Nexus 7 tablet to work on reading remediation and extension activities on their own levels.

In a study released in April 2011, the American Educational Research Association reported that students who do not read proficiently by third grade are four times less likely to graduate than proficient readers. These statistics apply to one in six children.
My students attend a non-Title I elementary school in west Georgia.
This year, my class consists of 9 boys and 7 girls. Many of the boys this year are in specific need of reading remediation. Since they are intrigued by technology, placing something like the Google Nexus in their hands will help to provide the motivation and stamina they need to work hard on reading remediation activities.
The Google Nexus 7 is a tablet that will operate reading applications, such as books and games to help students improve in areas of reading such as fluency and comprehension. Students can wear headphones to listen to fluent readers and can also record themselves using the built in microphone. Using this type of technology is exciting for students and adds extra motivation for learning in the classroom.
Twenty-three percent of children who read below a basic level drop out or fail to finish high school on time, compared to 9 percent of children with basic reading skills, and 4 percent of proficient readers.
Your donation will impact students by helping third graders become proficient readers. The gift of proficiency in reading will stretch beyond the walls of my classroom into my students' futures. Let's work together to lower the drop-out rate!
