My Students

I am a reading enrichment/interventionist at an elementary school in North Louisiana that serves close to 800 students. I serve all grades in my school, helping to figure out why students are having a hard time reading, and working through the struggles with them to make them successful. This year, our school becomes Title I, and our students need our help to fill their day with enriching, real-world, hands-on learning more than ever. Our English Language Learning group comes from homes that speak one of eleven different languages! We have several specialty classrooms that educate students from a variety of ability levels and emotional needs.

My students are diverse, kind, hard-working, and eager to achieve every day!

Our school is proud to serve military families and children from the local Air Force Base. These children are just one more facet of our highly diverse population; bringing knowledge, cultures, and information about the communities where their families have been stationed and have served.

Each and every one of our families has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, either from parent's job loss or family members being sick, and all have had their 2019-20 and 2020-21 school years thrown into chaos.

My Project

I took a new position at my school, and I did not think I would need a lot of the supplies and such that I had amassed over my 10+ years of teaching. Our school had hired several brand new teachers, and I gave a lot of my technology to their classrooms to get them started. I gave my Chromebook chargers to a new teacher, along with the majority of my class set since I did not think I would be needing it. However, my position changed again, and I am back to having full classrooms of students.

Not having a Chromebook charger/cart that keeps every computer fully charged and ready to use can be stressful for the students and me!

We have things that need to be accomplished every day, but I only have room for 11 of my 16 Chromebooks to be charged right now. They are not always easy to get to or charge. That can be super frustrating to some of my students that are particular about getting their work completed. Not being able to use the technology we have due to charging issues, can cause meltdowns and breakdowns in learning. Having this charger/cart will ensure that my Chromebooks are in a location that is easy to retrieve from and put up in, and we will know they are charged and ready to use. It will be a great stress reliever for everyone in the classroom. When my students don’t have to stress about charging issues, they are able to concentrate on reaching their weekly goals! They have enough stress in their lives right now, without the addition of Chromebook charging.
