My students have been lucky enough to obtain Chromebooks through kind donors on Donors Choose. Now we need a way to charge them all and keep them locked up at night.
I teach in a Special Education self-contained classroom.
We are a learning community that has a large population of English language learners and students who receive a free or reduced lunch. 78% of my students are ELL students and each has a learning disability.
My students enjoy working with technology because I can provide them with differentiated materials that meet their individual needs. They have shown true growth these past few months due to the many electronic materials they now can access. Currently, I am taking our pieces of technology home to ensure they are all charged and ready to be used for the next school day. I do this because as a special education teacher I do not have my own classroom and float throughout the school each day. This means I do not have a classroom to leave them in to charge or a classroom where they can be locked up at night.
My Project
A mobile laptop charging station would make it possible for my students to have charged computers while I float around the school. It would ensure that every laptop is fully charged for each class and would not need to be transported back and forth to my home every school day. Another benefit of having a mobile laptop charging station is that while the computers are charging, they can be locked up and safely stored in the school instead of being left out on desks.
This project is important because it will ensure each student has a fully charged piece of technology to work with every day.
Its the last step in a long process my students have gone through. Together my students have worked hard to demonstrate they would be responsible with technology. If I could afford to do it on my own I would. Unfortunately, I can not which is why I have turned to the kindness of donors on Donors Choose.
