Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a Title I school with a wide variety of languages, ethnicities, and home-life situations. Our school is part of District Reference Group “H”, which is the second-lowest socioeconomic level a school can be placed in. While we are a Title I city school, the diversity of our population is what makes this school so special.
Being a Title I city school, in the second-lowest socioeconomic level reference group, means we have over 85% of our population of students that qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
That said, many of my students struggle to have other basic needs met as well. I try not to let the lack of funding for resources be yet another obstacle for my students to have to overcome while in my classroom.
I have seen first hand, there is a wide range of skills that need to be reinforced within each class, and having access to the proper supplies and resources makes a world of difference. As I prepare to start a new year, I would love to be able to start it off with the supplies my students will need for continued success in math. With your help, that is
My Project
Many of our students do not have access to computers outside of school. Much of the homework is computer-based and we would love to be able to use all of the computers we have here in our classroom. We currently have 8 computers in our cluster that no longer work and with new batteries that problem would be resolved. With your help, we can offer more of our students access to technology, right here during study skills and team enrichment classes. During Team Enrichment we have all of the 120+ students in our cluster looking to do work on computers and the more we have available the more help we can offer.
With your help, we can repurpose our older laptops and get them back out of the closet.
