My Students
Our middle school is a widely diverse group of young men and young ladies. They are 13-14 year old 8th graders. In my
Writing (ELA) classes, I have: 25% special education students, over 60% free and reduced lunches students, a high ratio of minority students, and a wide array of different ethnicities.
To say we are diverse in every way would be a fair and accurate statement.
Yet, they do care about each other and believe they are not different. Our school has a 1 to 1 iPad distribution for students that definitely helps with technology at our school.
What do I love about my students? I have always been drawn to the "different" students - the one that walks a different path and our school definitely provides for that. I want to help our students in everyday life - the real world to prepare them for high school, college (vocational), service, or careers in the "real world".
My Project
My low socio- economic and special education students need the ability to charge their iPads in class. Sometimes students forget to "charge it" and often times, students do not have the capability to charge their iPads. Upon entering the classroom, if we have a docking/charging station in class, students will be able to immediately charge their iPads.
Our middle school is a 1 to 1 ratio for iPads but in order to use them effectively, they must be charged.
Students sometimes lose their charger and do not have the means to replace it - we "need help to help them" use their technology effectively in the real world.
