My students have been extremely resilient during this unprecedented time. Being in the inner city of the largest city in New Jersey, and with the rapidly rising numbers of Covid-19, my students still consistently come to class in our 100% remote learning format ready to learn and get involved. Each one of them, to the best of their ability, juggles home life, social/emotional needs, and school requirements during lockdowns and set curfews throughout their neighborhoods. They love showing me new and innovative ways to use interactive websites and applications in order to differentiate my instruction and keep them involved.
My Project
We are in need of additional teaching resources. As we are in an all-remote learning environment, proper technology for the teacher is just the beginning of an amazing educational experience. Hands-on and differentiating learning is key to success. Being "face-to-face" on a screen forces each classroom to get more creative finding/using more interactive websites and applications. In order to accomplish this goal, my students and I will work in unison to find such ways with some better teaching technology.
As a History teacher, it is paramount to guide my children by having them connect to the past and be part of their future through virtual field trips, analyzing primary sources, respectful debate/discussion in small breakout sessions, and much more.
For example, Stanford History Education Group is a great source to analyze and discuss such primary sources throughout history. Our class will be able to work more effectively and efficiently in small breakout sessions to discuss said sources, come back for whole class discussion, while also completing accompanying tasks.
