Character Education Access From Home! Social Emotional Learning From Online!
Help me give my students access to character education within a format to learn from and use from home. This DVD set (which I can use once we go back to our buildings) includes online streaming.
Our students have great spirit. Many of our students have challenging backgrounds. Some of their challenges are because of poverty and some challenges are from being family members of the military when they move often and get disconnected from school and friends. Right now, we are all dealing with learning in a different setting with schools closed and students learning from home.
As an elementary school, students are young and now is when they need to gain strategies to handle change and transition to carry with them through life.
Our school is very close-knit and supportive of the students, the parents and each other. We are a school of Kindergarten through Fifth Grade students. Our school is a magnet school focused on international awareness, arts, and teaching independence and interdependence.
This project would support our parents and students in their day to day lives, especially now that they are working together at home to implement the lessons teachers are sending home.
My Project
These materials about Character Education will put Social Emotional Learning at my students' fingertips at a time they need the information more than ever being isolated at home.
The students can watch from home and be introduced to Character Education traits of Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship from these six videos.
This will give their parents and me a basis for discussion with the students. The videos will be fun for the students to watch, therefore engaging them in important lessons.
Through online interactions, I can build on this information to encourage SEL being taught even though the students are at home during these trying times.
