My students need 15 copies of the book, "Respect A Girl's Guide to Getting Respect and Dealing When Your Line is Crossed", so that they can use a copy while participating in a character/confidence building group.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at Corporate Landing Middle School are amazing. They are from diverse backgrounds and come to school so full of life that their contributions to the school climate are beyond measure. Because of our close proximity to the Dam Neck Naval Base, we have an overwhelming number of students who are military connected and brought to the vibrant city of Virginia Beach through parental and guardian assignments. CLMS students show incredible resiliency as a result, bringing a sense of belonging and pride that is difficult to find in any other community.
My Project
The book, "Respect A Girl's Guide to Getting Respect and Dealing When Your Line is Crossed," is an empowering book for young women that provides the perfect frame for a young women's group series. It speaks directly to them and is incredibly relevant to their lives here and now. Navigating the murky waters of growing up and remaining secure as an adolescent can be difficult, and this book would be a perfect text for a series group lesson.
The book is broken up into three parts: Respect on the Inside, Getting and Giving Respect, and Taking Action which contain roughly 12 chapters that could provide a 12-session girl's group character building series.
Each chapter contains examples, discussions, activities, information, and journal prompts. The facilitator can follow the chapters easily, in my case School Counselors, to keep direction and content purposeful.
Allowing each participant to have a book would help allow students to guide their sessions, and follow along. It also gives the students a sense of agency and ownership over their materials, so that if there is a topic they would like more information on, they can review it privately. Having a group set would allow us to conduct the group multiple times, and with different grade levels.
