Through constant group work, problem solving and teamwork, students know that we help each other and that we are better when we’re a team. We’re friends who support and encourage each other and value each other's differences. But most importantly, we’re a family. My Project
As a teacher, I firmly believe that readers are leaders! Not only is reading a foundational life skill, but it is also a gateway to conversation, reflection and action. In my classroom, I seek to provide opportunities for my students to read rich, meaningful literature in a space that allows conversation. I encourage my students to think deeply, ask questions and share their opinions through writing and talking. Books clubs provide groups of students books that they are interested in, a small group of friends to navigate the book with, and a chance to read together or independently. As a teacher, I am able to meet with groups and individuals as well as help my full class make connections across books as we share together.
While the future of what school looks like as we navigate a pandemic is uncertain, what is certain is that books and conversations shape children's lives.
No matter where our classrooms are and what they look like over the next years, having these book club sets will allow my students to keep reading and keep talking. We are fortunate to have incredible technology that keeps our classrooms connected when we are not in the physical classroom- we can read and talk about our books through a computer screen until we are able to sit down face to face again. These book club sets will be treasured and appreciated by many students (in the virtual classroom or the physical one) and will promote growth and inspiration through reading and talking.
