My students need chapter books that are exemplars of quality writing and story telling. As we move to Common Core Standards I need more chapter books in my classroom.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I remember the first time I read Charlotte's Web. I cried as my teacher read aloud the final pages. I want my students to be able to follow along with their own copy of chapter books and to become immersed in a story that elicits such strong emotions.
We are a third grade classroom in an inner city location outside of Los Angeles, CA.
My students come to school everyday hungry, both for nutrition for their bodies and minds. We are a public school and I have purchased 80% of my classroom library. As we move towards Common Core State Standards, I realized my library is in need of class sets and small group sets of QUALITY chapter books.
My Project
My students will have the opportunity to foster the love of reading both individually and in small groups. They will learn social skills including participation in book discussions as well as sharing of common resources. My students will be able to immerse themselves in another world as they venture into reading Chapter Books for the first time in their educational career. They will have the world of literature opened up to them, and they will forever be changed by their experiences in 3rd grade.
Right now, I have single copies of chapter books.
If I want to use a chapter book whole class, I either have to read it aloud or project it to the front of the class. Students have difficulties implementing their reading strategies as I am the main one reading and facilitating the lesson. By having their own book, they have access to unlocking their true potential as readers.
