Learning can take place in a wide variety of ways. My students and I are on a remote learning adventure and discovering new technology that is letting us communicate and hold meetings. They are creative, determined and motivated learners who are looking for new opportunities to learn.
During this pandemic I am reading chapter books aloud to my students via video recording and bringing texts alive with different backgrounds and sound effects.
I am currently using my personal cell phone to record these stories and transferring them into a different format. Using my school provided laptop and resources, I am able to send them chapters to listen to and share with their families.
My goal is to get more chapter books into their hands and be able to record the stories in a more effective manner where they can see the beautiful illustrations and text features. Feedback from my families have indicated that they love listening to the stories and sharing them with siblings and parents.
My Project
The document camera will allow me to show the students the pages of the books, allowing for better comprehension. They will be able to see the illustrations and other text features. Additionally this will allow for our virtual class meetings to be more interactive and hands on and bring more games that reflect our curriculum such as war, carrot race and uno attack. The books will allow me to bring a wider range of texts to the students that will encompass all of their interests as I am using books that I personally own - which are not all at a third grade level.
