Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm sure this has been said and heard time and time again, but my students are "my kids." Each year is a special and unique group, but they always have one thing in common. My students need to feel loved and important.

Sure, math and reading are essential, but my biggest job is to make sure my kiddos are confident and kind leaders.

I want them to know that there are people out in this world rooting for them. I hope my classroom is a place of fun, comfort, and lots of rich experiences.

My kiddos come from great families, but families who work and work just to make ends meet. The majority of my students have a life where they get what they need and rarely what they want."

With that being said, if you were able to look in my classroom, you are going to see fresh smiles every morning. You will see kiddos who love life and are eager to learn...unless it is Monday morning writing, AHHH. Only kidding, kinda.

Just know, if you choose us, you are supporting a wonderful group of 4th graders.

My Project

Every year, I always hear from a few reluctant readers, "I can't read that book. It is way too long." I hate to see some of my readers stray away from great texts because of book size. That is why I have come to love graphic novels.

Graphic novels are the current favorites among my 4th graders, and they are also a great way to get hesitant readers interested in chapters books.

My students absolutely adore graphic novels, and I have truly seen a difference in their attitude toward reading and their confidence. Believe it or not, many students don't touch chapter book because they believe that if they aren't strong readers, then they can't read long books. Graphic novels are easier to approach, and after a few under their belts, students build the confidence and stamina for those chapter books. These great texts will definitely have a positive impact on my young readers!
