Do you remember finding a character or author you really loved and wanting to read more of his or her work? That is what is happening for my young readers; they are excited to read and can't wait to get their hands on more books!
I teach a class of enthusiastic first graders who are all eager to learn every day!
We work hard each day to grow as readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and members of our classroom family, school family, and our community. We work together in a school that has lots of family involvement. Our school is a place where students, families, and teachers believe in the importance of education. I strive each day to help my students find joy in their lives from being together and learning. Our class is a wonderful place to be!
My Project
I have been introducing my young readers to the exciting world of chapter books. This group of children is literally begging me to read each day! As I introduce them to an author or a particular character, they are racing to the library to find a book written by that author or that features the character. This is so exciting to watch as their teacher! I need help to build our classroom library and fill it with a wider range of books. I have a personal library of children's books that I share with the students, but I would love to add to it by creating a chapter book library filled with books from beginning, easier to read chapter books to more challenging texts for my advanced readers. This will be accomplished through a series of grant proposals that I hope our wonderful supporters here at Donors Choose will find as exciting as we do! This request will provide us with a variety of mystery books, a genre kids love, at a variety of reading levels.
Our readers are really growing and enthused about reading.
