My students need these tables to help them engage with others better. I know asking for folding tables for a classroom is an odd request but I believe it will enhance the learning environment.
The students in my classroom tend to be at the top of their game academically. They work hard and enjoy learning. The AP Psych class they take with me is by choice and allows them to gain further insights into the human condition. I also teach students in Sociology and American History. These students enjoy a wide range of information that ties directly back to who they are. All of these courses are taught from a human nature perspective and as such I want to create an atmosphere that embraces human nature.
One major thing I recognize about my students is the life struggles they all deal with.
My class allows my students an opportunity for a safe haven in which they can express themselves and learn together while dealing with some major life struggles.
I also find that they need more opportunity for engaging with others. The project I am proposing will make classroom interaction and engagement in my small classroom more accessible to each student.
My Project
This is probably an unusual request from a classroom teacher. I currently in my classroom have a desk and chair for each student so why do I want tables? Honestly, the classroom is small, the desks get in the way, and the students can't perform all the different engagement activities that I would like them to.
If you are anything like me you find that magic happens around tables.
I want to create magic for my students in my room. I also want to be able to fold the tables up when the students need space to move and engage.
