Students are engaged in doing hands-on projects, collecting data to report to the Globe Program. I would like students to have a better understanding of their environment and the area where they live.
"Regard Heaven as your Father, Earth as your Mother, And all things as your brothers and sisters." - Native American Proverb
My students live in a little rural town in south.
There is not much industry and there is a high poverty level. Students are not able to afford to go to many places outside this small town. The school has about 700 students which is small for most schools. It does not have the technology that a lot of schools in the county have but there is a nice size wing that was added on with science labs and classrooms adjacent to the labs.
My Project
My students will learn how to use hands-on equipment, to enhance what they have learned in their textbook. Students will be reporting to the Globe Program is valuable data collected through out the week. They will learn how the analyze soil, water, atmospheric phenomenon, along with the training needed to conduct land and water tests, report the findings, and then gather information to share with other schools all over the world.
A lot of my students have either one parent alive or both parents dead.
Some do not see a way out of the continuous boredom that has followed them all of their lives. With using the equipment and and the kits, my students will learn more about their surrounds. I want to get them interested in science so they too may look for a good job outside the area where they live. I want them to see how helping others helps themselves.
