My Students
My Special Education students have autism and blindness that make learning the general education curriculum difficult. We need technology. We know that using iPads with students who have autism can be life changing. Adapting books with iBook is powerful, we want the opportunity for our students!
Poverty and lack of early interventions have left our students in a vulnerable place.
Our students have autism, blindness and moderate cognitive disabilities. Our students are eager to communicate but because of the economic limitations of their families and ultimately of autism,Blindness and cognitive disabilities- they are literally trapped inside their worlds. Technology will literally change the quality of their lives. By providing us with the tools we can better serve our students. Our school also has financial limitations, so we have not been able to give our students all they ultimately need. Your support will allow us this precious opportunity to serve our special education students with the interventions they need.
My Project
My students struggle to communicate and understand content from lessons. The iPads will give them a chance to utilize technology and access programming that will allow them to make authentic choices and communicate their own authentic needs.
They will be able to use apps like Proloquo2go and iBooks which have been used by thousands of individuals who cannot communicate by normal means and need special interventions. iBooks will give them a chance to read in ways that are neurologically appropriate for the needs of autism and other cognitive disabilities. We anticipate this assistive technology will allow them to grow tremendously!
Our kids lives will be changed.
They currently cannot speak in complete sentences. They don't have the same access to the curriculum as their general education peers. Books and other text that are used in general education classroom aren't appropriate for them. Adapting materials with technology will finally give our students access to curriculum otherwise they haven't been able to really access through old methods of adaptation.
