This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and love to try new things. They enjoy trying new things and exploring the world around them. While we are doing our best to educate them, we want to expose them to new thoughts and ideas through diverse books.
Students enjoy seeing characters that look like them and think like them in books.
Books that mirror their experiences are in high demand at our school and we would like to have more of them. We are encouraging our students to read more and it is helpful to have enough high-interest books to keep them engaged and wanting more.
My Project
Our students are reluctant readers, but as a school, it is our mission to increase the reading levels of our school. This project is designed as a book challenge to encourage students to read more. The challenge is for students to read 10 or more books by the end of the school year.
As a part of this challenge, it is my goal to offer books to keep as prizes for completing the challenge.
As students completely finish the challenge, I would like to be able to provide them with books to add to their personal library. Our goal is to empower students to be lifelong learners but without reading this is not possible.
