My students need laptops in our classroom to have the ability to research concepts we are studying in class thus increasing their success in class and beyond!

My Students

TCEA has been open for five years. This school year is the second year for middle school grades (6-8). My students are hesitant to learn science as it is a subject that most find difficult. I want to change their views on science. TCEA is a free public charter school, Title I, and 51% of the students qualify for the free/reduced lunch program. The student body has a widely diverse social and economic backgrounds, traveling from 6 counties to reach school daily. TCEA middle school students are afforded the opportunity to attend Visual Arts, Dance, Music, Theatre and STEAM classes as an elective.

Science is in our everyday lives and I want to be able to bring it alive to my students.

Science is one of the four core curriculum classes. Having several laptops in our classroom would allow me to grow the science library and research area to allow my students the opportunity to increase their science skills.

My Project

These laptops will give my students the opportunity to get right on a computer to research concepts that we are covering in class. It allows the students to learn how to research the internet and increase their science skills, reading and writing. Laptops will also allow students to participate in virtual labs thus increasing understanding of harder concepts being presented in class.

I want my students to be confident in science and give them all the skills to be successful.

Many of my students are hesitant and feel they cannot be successful in science and I want to change their views of science.
