While my students enjoy reading, they continue to struggle with comprehending what they are reading. After spending the last four years of my career teaching math and science, I have a need for resources to help my students better comprehend what they are reading across the curriculum.
My students come from a rural community.
Most of them love school, and try to soak up everything they can from our day. They love to read a variety of materials, and we are constantly looking for things to keep them interested. Our school has a lot of texts for our lower level readers, but they don't always work well with the skills and curriculum that my 5th graders need to be able to master.
My Project
These resources will help my students better understand what they are reading in a variety of genres. The materials I am requesting are at a variety of reading levels so that I can match the materials to the levels of my kids, meeting them at their need. Since they are reproducible, I can send the materials home with the students to read to others, also improving their fluency. They will be exposed to a wide range of texts from every genre.
These materials will help me be able to better meet the reading needs of all of my students.
