Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are always excited when they enter the classroom, especially on lab days. They enjoy hands-on activities, working in small groups and being able to explore with their peers. My goal is to provide my students with an engaging, fun and safe learning environment. My school is located in a low social economic neighborhood where 95% of the students are on free or reduced price lunch. Most of my students are faced with many challenges in the classroom and at home.
My Project
My Pre-K and kindergarten students will need water colors to start creating masterpieces and learn about colors. My older students first grade through fifth will be using poster paint to create their masterpieces and the non-spill paint cups will help prevent messes and allow for easy storage. The finger paint paper will give them a medium that is thicker and better for absorbing the paint. The variety of paint brushes will allow them to get creative and have fun while painting. Fun foam brushes that are shaped like houses and happy faces will get them excited. Other foam brushes that roll will help create various textures to their work. Then of course, a stock pile of traditional brushes will be necessary. The smocks will be uses in lower grades in help them and their clothes stay clean.
With more and more standardized testing our students are getting less and less time to challenge their inner artists and less chances to be creative a skill I believe to be necessary for embracing their originality and uniqueness.
The colored pencils will be needed when students are creating sketches or coloring. Of course, a pencil sharpener for colored pencils will be great to make sure they can stay "on point".
