My students are innovative, hard working, and always seeking a challenge. They absolutely love the opportunity to explore and learn new things, problem solve, and engage in activities that require them to think outside of the box. These are typical qualities of a gifted learner though.
Many of my students are anxious to have enrichment time with me because they crave challenging, thought provoking opportunities above and beyond what their advanced classes can offer.
I teach gifted education at a middle school in Mebane, NC where resources and money are often invested in supporting students' who struggle and not in pushing our brightest students to reach their full potential. While I do pull the accelerated students in my school for additional enrichment several times a week I also I collaborate with my peer educators providing them with best practices for gifted learners and co-teaching lessons on a regular basis. It is my goal to provide the gifted learners I serve with resources that will challenge them and help them thrive in life and academically.
My Project
Each week, I work with small groups of students for math enrichment. With my position, money for supplies is not available. Through this project I would like to provide my students with the opportunity to receive resources that will challenge them.
The goal in my classroom is to promote critical thinking and problem solving skills among the gifted students I work with.
Without resources such as the books listed I am often scrambling around looking for things online and pulling together sometimes mediocre things. I would absolutely love to add these books and the other supplies to my classroom. Having them will allow me and my students many more opportunities than what I have already provided. Your consideration in donating to my project is greatly appreciated!
