I am a second year teacher in Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools and I love to teach students to read. I use authentic literature for guided reading and work hard to stir up debate and conversation to allow my students to increase their ability to critically think through text. The author Chris Van Allsburg is exceptional in creating books which are entertaining and allow for debate and discussion. I am getting ready to start a unit on themes, inferences and author's purpose and I would like to use Van Allsburg's books in a literature circle situation. The only problem is the fact that I can only find one copy of each book and for the students to be able to independently take part in this activity I need at least 5 copies of each book. If this proposal is sponsored it would truly allow me to challenge my students and give them a chance to study a spectacular author.
