"Success is measured by effort." My students apply this quote as they have learned to put forth effort and be understanding and flexible with the resources our school can provide.
I currently have 30 very energetic and enthusiastic second graders that come to school with a kind heart and an amazing attitude.
We have as many as 10 different languages spoken at our school. Although these students don't have a lot of worldly possessions, their personalities and resilience certainly make up for it. What amazes me about my students, is that many of them face other challenges outside of the classroom and yet, they still manage to accomplish so much, without the support we take for granted. My students remind me each day what the important things in life truly are.
Art is an amazing subject that is quickly disappearing in our public school system. I am changing that and teaching a structured art class for my second graders. I want to introduce them to the medium of colored chalk by teaching them about the texture and the the multiple uses and lines made by using different ends and sides of the chalk.
Students need to become more creative!
Most art in schools are just a cut and paste. I’m not into that and these second graders are capable of learning techniques of older grades. The colored chalk will be an amazing change for this class.
