Chairs That Care

My students need 32 padded folding chairs for comfortable seating. The school is very dated and currently has wooden chairs. Could you imagine sitting on that for 80 minutes while trying to learn?

My Students

My classroom is a very active science lab, however, sitting to learn is part of our day and I want them to have comfortable seating just as any scientist would in a lab setting. I know I would not want to sit on a hard wooden chair to learn! These cushioned chairs will really make a difference.

My school serves approximately 1200 students from diverse backgrounds.

It is a high poverty/high needs area. The building and most of the furniture appear to be from the 70's. I am lucky enough to have an interactive whiteboard, but the science tables and wooden chairs/cabinets, as well as the lighting leave room for immense improvement. I hope you will contribute to my classroom so that I can make their science learning environment exciting, comfortable, and inviting!

My Project

By replacing the wooden chairs, my students will sit comfortably and be more alert during instructional time. It is hard to learn when you are uncomfortable. New seating will help with their posture, too. Not to mention, it will update the look of our out-dated classroom and make it more appealing. We all know that smells and color make a difference in your emotions.

So I hope this "padded perk" will brighten their day, make them relaxed, and ready to learn.

It will also prove that they are important to me and that I care about their well-being as well as their education. Currently, I am painting the chalkboards and making them magnetic dry erase boards ($$$ spent from my personal pockets just to update this very old classroom).
