Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students participate in a high school classroom designed to educate students with severe/profound special education needs.
My students currently spend the majority of their school day sitting in uncomfortable, mismatched, even broken, chairs.
The goal of the classroom is to increase academic skills, while also developing functional skills and increasing life and career readiness. Several of the students are English Language Learners, most come from low-income backgrounds, several have sensory needs. My students stay with me during their 9-11th grades.
My Project
These comfortable chairs will enhance the learning environment for my students. My school has limited funding and therefore is unable to replace the furniture as needed.
Students who are comfortable will be able to focus on their learning.
My students spends the majority of their day in my classroom, for several years, and they deserve to be comfortable while there. New chairs would also benefit the aesthetic appeal of the classroom for the students. My students have enough challenges to deal with, so sitting in uncomfortable, broken chairs should not be one. These are great kids and deserve a comfortable setting.
